This is our 6th year of sharing our holiday homes in the hamlet of Les Sarrazies in Maurens, with visitors from around the world, and my 30th year of holiday cottage letting. We still get a great buzz in preparing for new visitors and seeing their pleasure as we show them into their chosen holiday property here at Le Clos du Verger. We’ve had many lovely customers of all nationalities. Time to trawl through the visitors book in each property and see what our visitors thought of their stay. We ask them to say what their favourite visits have been. Here are just a few typical replies from some of our English speaking guests.
Sitting in the bar by the river in old Bergerac, Visiting the village and dam at Tuilières (an unusual outing that we suggest in our “local guide”), Enjoying a meal with the locals at Les Oliviers in Maurens, Sitting by the stream at Le Clos du Verger and Local walks.Margaret and Peter
We enjoyed the comfort of this lovely cottage, which kept us cosy despite the chilly weather. Thank you for the ‘Welcome’ basket so generously filled and much appreciated.Carol and Jeff
Dear Martin and Jane, thank you for a fab stay. Your little house was perfect in so many ways – a home from home. We loved the nearness to Bergerac and the quiet of the countryside. Thank you for your lovely hospitality. We will be back.Yvonne and Tim
And indeed they did come back, and stayed before and after their daughter’s wedding in a local wedding venue. We have several times hosted guests who have made a holiday round a wedding invitation, for there are some beautiful wedding venues not far away.
Many of our visitors arrive by plane, usually to Bordeaux or to the airport south of Bergerac, including Sheila and Bernard:
We have had a lovely week in lovely well-equipped accommodation. Lots of interesting places to visit near and far. It is a beautiful area with lots to discover and enjoy. So glad we found this place. Perfectly placed near the airport and easy to get into Bergerac itself.Sheila and Bernard
Karin and Peter, like many of our guests, enjoyed Brantôme, as well as the Sunday market at Issigeac, the gardens of Marqueyssac.
The very well equipped gîte with a wonderful welcome pack, and our extremely helpful hosts, and especially Martin’s help with a troublesome car.Karin and Peter
Well, we do what we can if we are asked for help!
So you get the idea, we hope. We love you to enjoy our location and to have an enjoyable holiday, and we try and make everything as easy and as comfortable for you as possible. We don’t always get it right, but the vast majority of our guests say the kindest things about our welcome. On the very few times when we fail to meet guest expectations, which is distressing for both sides, we hold up our hands and apologise if it is our fault. The only thing that riles us is a lack of respect for what we have here!
Mark and Julie this summer appreciated the comments people have made in the visitors book that gave them lots of ideas of things to see and do.
We’ve had a fantastic break. And Emily’s parents wrote The accommodation was perfect for our little family. Jane and Martin were welcoming and helpful. We would really recommend the Lac de Pombonne for cooling off in the heat.Mark and Julie
This swimming lake is in a country park on the edge of Bergerac and is a great favourite with our guests.
Wendy and Phil wrote at the end of their stay in Chez le Charpentier in June:
Thank you Jane and Martin for letting us share your lovely home and garden. Nine days is not long enough and we are sad to be leaving. We both love wildlife and have not been disappointed, having spotted some birds and insects we’ve never seen before. The wild flowers are just amazingWendy and Phil
Anne and Geoff just had a short break here in May this year as part of a touring holiday, taking advantage of our flexible arrival and departure days:
“Wonderful start to our first visit to the Dordogne. Le Chai is great and the atmosphere inside and out is immediately relaxing. Sorry to be leaving so soon.”Anne and Geoff
A couple from Devon, house hunting in our area, concentrated on the accommodation in their comments:
“This gîte we found to be warm and welcoming and very, very clean. The bed was really comfortable, and there is a well equipped kitchen. Jane and Martin were very friendly and gave advice on all manner of things. We’d have no hesitation in recommending this place to others.”A couple from Devon
Caroline and John have the final words:
We have had an amazing time in this most beautiful part of France. The gîte is perfect, Jane and Martin have thought of everything. They are so knowledgeable too regarding the area. A thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay. Jane and Martin should be proud of what they have achieved – they have realised most people’s dreams.Caroline and John
